12// St. Nicholas Day

We have so much fun observing St. Nicholas Day. Last night we went out and gave carrots & apples to the horses & cows(old European custom to give extra hay & carrots to horses on the eve of St. Nicholas Day), we read about St. Nicholas and before bed the kids put a shoe outside their doors. Jonah wanted to set out a snowboot. LOL

Susanna was very funny-first she wanted to set out both shoes of the pair, but we got her to leave just the one. But, then she didn't want to leave it there. So she put it on and walked around with one shoe for a bit. This morning they got up and checked their shoes. I felt badly because I normally put a little toy along with chocolate coins in the shoes. I wasn't really prepared for that this time. So, in their shoes were candy corn, starbursts and oranges. They were thrilled anyway. Susanna was so excited to find candycorns in her shoe. I wonder if she will now be looking in her shoes tomorrow morning.

They all snuggled up on the couch together with a blanket and watched a short Christmas movie.

They want to string popcorn today to hang outside on a tree for the birds. We have snow now and I am finally feeling into the Christmas season. I've had the Christmas music on, cinnamon candles burning and have been enjoying coffee with vanilla extract splashed in it and cinnamon sprinkled in, too. It is so delicious!!
