8/20/06 Goings On Here

We had a good time at our friend's camp. We were there Thurs & Fri. The weather was beautiful. We went boating, the kids went swimming, fishing, kayaking, swinging on a huge rope swing, etc.

They also went on a snorkeling trip-all the guys and all the older kids. They were gone for 2 hours (I prayed the whole time as they were going thru a section with fast water).
I guess they had a little bit of a hairy time with the current being faster than they thought and they got cut up a bit from zebra mussels in the shallow parts, but they had a blast. They were in deep water areas, too.
Here's a pic of Hannah (10) snorkeling near the dock:
We got back late Friday night. Saturday we picked up a new addition. A few months ago my dh had filled out an application to raise a guide dog puppy for the blind. We never heard from them and forgot about it. Last week they called and asked us if we were ready.
So, we now have 10 week old yellow male lab named Piper. He'll be with us for a year and we need to do basic obedience with him and take him with us to as many places as possible. Here he is:
We tried on his work vest and that was funny. He got a corner of it and ran around in circles trying to play with it. He is real sweetie-very affectionate and not hyper. So far he sleeps a lot and he did really well in his crate last night. He's also doing pretty good learning to potty train. He is trying hard to play with our 2 German Shepherds, but so far they are ignoring him. He did want to chase the chickens, but I had him on the leash and we worked on learning not to chase the running chickens. He's smart and catches on quick.
The kids love him. Susanna(22 months) is fascinated by him-he's just her size! LOL
We are praying for the blind person who will receive Piper when he's done with his training. After his year with us, he'll go someplace for formal training. It will be hard to give him back, I'm sure. If this all works out well, we'll get another guide dog puppy for a year.
