12/18/06 Family & Christmas Tree & Live Nativity

We got an unplanned visit from my Dad & Grandma Saturday morning. We had a lot of fun!! My grandmother(she's 86) and I went shopping at a little country store. My grandmother is fun to shop with-she likes to discuss the things she might buy at length, but then doesn't buy it. She's so cute.

She got my dh really good. (He is always teasing her and while she was churning butter for me and my dh was singing the lollipop song from the Wizard of Oz with his chin resting on her shoulder because she is very short-4 ft 4 or something like that. She laughs at everything he says as she's very good-natured.)

Anyway, he was talking to me about this tractor he wants that we can't afford right now-a kubota that can move round bales and it has a bucket, etc. He was teasing me and saying we could get rid of my vehicle and buy this tractor and I could take the 4-wheeler with the kids in the wagon to town.
So, my grandmother (and she never gets anyone good or understands jokes, etc, so this is why it's so funny) looks at him and says,
"Pat, farmers with tractors like that get crops. All you get is craps!" (literally-cow, horse, chicken)
We all laughed all day over that. My grandmother laughed the most because she couldn't believe that came out of her mouth. LOL
Sunday we had such an awesome family day. We did family church at home and read our Advent reading with the lit candles. Susanna got to "bo kikis" afterward (blow candles). LOL We went and got our Christmas tree at the tree farm we always go to. It is such a charming place-we take a wagon to a tree field and cut down our tree.
Then, when we get back to the tree shop, there's free hot chocolate & home-made cookies and cute giftshop things to buy-ornaments, wreaths, soaps. The best part is the people there-they are so friendly & homey!
Then we went to see a live Nativity, which was awesome!!
When we got back home, we put up our tree, decorated it to Christmas music and made chocolate crinkle cookies.
Susanna was really enthralled with all the Christmas tree stuff this year. She loves the ornaments and keeps playing the lower ones. We did have 2 broken ornaments yesterday as well. She keeps saying this: "Daddy...cut...tree...come...home...tree...house!"
We also played Blokus-which we LOVE-and we watched a Christmas movie. After a crazy 2 months of getting ready for Winter what with firewood & everything else and all the hunting and butchering going on, it was so nice to have a whole day for a family day just by ourselves!!
